Stephen Troum at Love and War

Harry Hewlett hosted the Bring Your Own Mic Open Mic at Love & War on the 4th Thursday in the month of June and Stephen Troum was one of the performers. Great fun, great music and great food. Who could ask for more. DSA's open mic is there every 4th Thursday and streams to Facebook. Also performing were Guitar George Longus, Scott Brooks, Bill Martin, John Mason, Bob Barraza and Allen Larson. https://www.facebook.com/104739376244963/videos/1397111320645421

Last month I attended Porta Di Roma for Songs In The Round and pasta, yum. Excellent Italian food! DSA Songwriters Round takes the stage there on the 3rd Friday every month and is streamed live to Facebook. Rickey Gene Wright is the host of that Songwriters in the Round format. Performing last month were: Ian Dickson, Rickey Gene and Rio King. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we did not get a stream for that night. Yes, a good reason to come out in person. Six years ago we began to honor famous singer/songwriters with roots in the Dallas/Fort Worth area through an induction into the Dallas Songwriters Association Hall of Fame. In the previous years we have honored legends such as T-Bone Walker, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Freddie King, Trini Lopez, Sam Samudo (Sam the Sham), Cindy Walker, Gus Levine, Al Johnson, Bruce Channel, Jerry Lynn Williams, Gary Nicholson, Delbert McClinton, the Nightcaps, Larry Henley, Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs, Stephen Stills, and Rod Phelps.

This years honorees included England Dan Seals and John Ford Coley, Janie Fricke, Steve Weinberg, John Denver, and Gregg A Smith. The DSA's initiative this year was to encourage young aspiring musicians to celebrate our legends with their performances of songs made famous by our inductees. We reached out to the local music schools and asked for auditions at each school for the honor to perform. The show is also archived on our Youtube channel.

On April 30 - May 2, DSA participated in The Dallas International Guitar Show with a booth. What great time we had, seeing our old friends and making new ones. That festival is still the best entertainment value in town. Even though the Dallas Guitar Show wasn't as populated as in years past, we still managed a successful outreached. At our booth we handed out the Spring 2021 Songwriters Notes Issue which contained a list of our contest winners for the past couple of years. SONGWRITERS NOTES ISSUE # 225 APRIL 2021

  Hello Songwriter,

Big story this month, yeah! A lot of us have had our second vaccination. Stepping out! We had a good turn out at the Love and War open mic last Thursday. Zoom and Facebook has a helped us keep our sanity through the lost COVID year of 2020. But last Thursday, we all ventured out to listen in person and eat at a restaurant, yum! It was the best crowd we've had there in a year. It was so much fun to see everyone and get a big hug.
We'll all be testing the pizza this month at the Porta Di Roma on the 3rd Thursday when the DSA Songwriters Round takes the stage. It will be streamed live to Facebook, but we'll be there in person. Rickey Gene Wright is the host of that Songwriters in the Round format. Wayne Willingham, Rickey Gene and Don Wall in the photo  L-R.

🎶 SONGWRITERS NOTES ISSUE # 224 MARCH 2021 🎶

  Hello Songwriter,

An historic winter storm caused a chaotic February here in Texas. Folks went for long periods without power and are now dealing with busted water pipes and no access to clean drinking water. Just one you think it can't get any worse to have to stay at home, then we were in our homes freezing. Our DSA Director of Showcases, Harry Hewlett has managed to carry on through it all, facilitating our educational and performance opportunities. We are thankful for our songwriting community. Thanks to all of you who have reached out and asked about our well being. We are fine and so grateful for what we have. As Joni Mitchell once sang, " You don't know what you got til it's gone".

 Hello Songwriter,

Happy Valentines Day.
Wow, we had a wonderful January! I want to thank all of you for creating and playing your songs with us on Zoom for our Celebration of Song 2020 Song Contest Awards. You were wonderful! Your songs have been a light in the darkness of alone, lifting our spirits and connecting us like virtual hugs.  Also, thanks go out to our friends and family for being a part of our Facebook community. We are thankful for our songwriting community and the DSA Director of Showcases, Harry Hewlett for facilitating our educational and performance opportunities.
A few changes this month: We've cancelled the Monday Meetup due to lack of participation. We may start it up again when we can go back to Half Price Books. We'll see. Also, we will hold our Hall of Fame virtual this year instead of skipping it. Harry says we can do it! So we are doing it via zoom.
