Happy Valentines Day.
Wow, we had a wonderful January! I want to thank all of you for creating and playing your songs with us on Zoom for our Celebration of Song 2020 Song Contest Awards. You were wonderful! Your songs have been a light in the darkness of alone, lifting our spirits and connecting us like virtual hugs. Also, thanks go out to our friends and family for being a part of our Facebook community. We are thankful for our songwriting community and the DSA Director of Showcases, Harry Hewlett for facilitating our educational and performance opportunities.
A few changes this month: We've cancelled the Monday Meetup due to lack of participation. We may start it up again when we can go back to Half Price Books. We'll see. Also, we will hold our Hall of Fame virtual this year instead of skipping it. Harry says we can do it! So we are doing it via zoom.

Community Awards went to Dunn Brothers Coffee and Broadjam, Inc.
In November 2019, DSA celebrated 15 years at Dunn Brothers. DB was discontinued in June 2020 and beyond until further notice. The longest running open mic in DSA history was started by Craig St Clair on Thursday, November 18, 2004 and was held on every third Thursday of the month, 6:30 - 8:30pm for 15 and 1/2 years until the COVID pandemic shut us down in March of 2020. When Craig moved to Venus, Harry Hewlett took over hosting duties. Dunn Brothers received a DSA Community Award on January 16 at our 2020 Awards Program. It was presented to Alan and Kate Geddie by Craig St Clair. Here's how the certificate reads. "Dallas Songwriters Association presents Dunn Brothers Coffee with the 2020 Excellence in Community Service Award - Thank You, Alan & Kate Geddie and the entire DBC team for the outstanding venue for supporting original music & the best cup of coffee in town."

We were so lucky to have our great friend and the grand prize judge of our song contest, Roy Elkins, to join us for the announcement of the winners and his comments on the competing songs. DSA is celebrating our wonderful 20 year partnership with Broadjam. They have been instrumental in supporting our song contest as a sponsor and online submissions partner. We are so very grateful for their partnership and the way that Roy cares about our members and the help that he have given us throughout the years including the educational programs he has provided. We are so glad that our then president, Sherrie Davis, found him back in 1999. We are so thankful for Roy and Broadjam. Here how the certificate reads.

DSA Hall of Fame - April 2021
This year, our annual DSA Hall of Fame Event, which honors outstanding songwriters with North Texas ties, has been postponed until April 19, 2021. Live performances of the inductees songs by DSA Rising Star Students, DSA Members, and the BYO Musicians Network will be broadcast LIVE to a global audience. We've opened up the audition process again because we have more planning time for the event. If you are interested go to the Hall of Fame website for audition procedures. Rising Stars who would like to perform can send audition videos to DSA HOF Audition Video.2021 Hall of Fame inductees: John Denver, England Dan Seals, John Ford Coley, Steve Wiseberg, Janie Fricke, and Gregg Smith. Last year, DSA initiated a new Rising Star program to encourage young aspiring musicians to celebrate our legends with performances of songs by our inductees. DSA is reaching out to the local music schools and asking for auditions at each school for the honor to perform. These students will be backed up by the BYO Hall of Fame band consisting of highly respected local musicians. The band members and special guests will also perform songs by our inductees.

DSA offers four contests to meet our mission of providing a benchmark for competency in songwriting. Anyone can enter our Annual International Song Contest. Entries are worldwide. You do not have to be a Dallas Songwriters Association member. The 2021 contest opens June 1.
