SONGWRITERS NOTES E-NEWS #207 MAY 2019

Hello Songwriter,
We had a very busy April.  We started the month off with a bang the first weekend with our special showcase at the Deep Ellum Arts Festival Sons of Hermann Hall Ballroom stage. The showcase was well attended. Here are some photos from Ben Halim of the event starting with Allen Larson. You can scroll forward from this photo. https://www.facebook.com/dallassongwriters/photos/a.715841115134783/2312793382106207/?type=3&theater. Harry put on Facebook individual videos for each performer from Friday and Sunday line up. Check out the videos here: https://www.facebook.com/dallassongwriters/publishing_tools/?section=VIDEOS&sort[0]=created_time_descending

We had a great showing at the Monday Meetup and at our first Thursday meeting we spoke via Skype to Nashville songwriter, Graham Bramblett about his experiences in the Nashville music scene.

We had a great showing at the Monday Meetup and at our first Thursday meeting we spoke via Skype to Nashville songwriter, Graham Bramblett about his experiences in the Nashville music scene.

We filled the room at the Opening Bell showcase and had a near record attendance at Dunn Brothers for the Third Thursday Open Mic.

Hall of Fame Rising Stars

Our Hall of Fame was April 20th, at the historic Sons of Hermann Hall DSA  inducted Stephen Stills, Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs, Larry Henley and Rod Phelps. Check out the Dallas Songwriters Hall of Fame website. Our Rising Star talent from local music schools put on a wonderful performance along with a few seasoned DSA members. The event was a great success thanks to our Hall of Fame committee members and VP Bobby Montgomery. View photos from the event here:  Check out the video on facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/dallassongwriters/videos/1400659220076298/
The fun thing about our event was the new backdrop for photos. Everyone enjoyed having pictures taken in front of the backdrop which was conceived and designed by Ben Halim. Thank you Ben. https://www.facebook.com/dallassongwriters/photos/a.2341771882541690/2336657696386442/?type=3&theater

Lastly, there was be a Celebration of Life for former DSA president, Steve Sullivan at Love and War where we expressed our grief and dismay at his untimely passing. As you can see we have kept our A&R director Harry Hewlett very busy booking the showcases, hosting the open mic, and providing sound and video for our events. Thank you Harry! Harry posts videos of our events on facebook. Here is the link for Love & War: https://www.facebook.com/dallassongwriters/videos/2342343632716807/

This weekend begins another fun month. Besides our regular events, we will be at the Dallas International Guitar Show Friday - Sunday the first weekend in May. Look for our booth and come by to take your picture in front of our new backdrop. This is absolutely the best entertainment value for this weekend. It's not only a market to buy and sell guitars, but also a great music festival with 4 stages throughout the weekend.

Also, we will be managing and performing on the City Line Courtyard Stage at the Wildflower Festival on the third weekend Friday - Sunday. Brando booked the talent and Ian and Harry will be managing the stage and providing the sound. Come out and be a part of the fun. There is a songwriting workshop there on Friday with Tom Kimmel. You can still sign up to attend. See the workshop section below for details.

Our regular DSA monthly events:
* the Monthly Meeting, 1st Thursday, Guest Speaker, music legend, Ed Bernet of the Levee Singers and Sumet Bernet studios.
