SONGWRITERS NOTES E-NEWS #206 APRIL 2019

Hello Songwriter,

We had a very sad March with the news of former DSA president, Steve Sullivan's untimely death due to a car accident in Alexandria, LA. DSA sent their condolences with the guitar floral pictured on the right. Some of us were able to break away and attend the services in Alexandria. Steve is survived by his wife, Renee, and his stepdaughter, Tiffany, his two brothers and their wives, children and grandchildren. Please visit Steve's facebook page to post your condolences. There will be a Celebration of Life for Steve at Love and War in Texas in Plano, Tx, on April 25th 7PM.

 April flowers bring Arts Month in Dallas. DSA has a lot of events.

Our Hall of Fame is April 20th, at the historic Sons of Hermann Hall DSA will be inducting Stephen Stills, Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs, Larry Henley and Rod Phelps. Check out the Dallas Songwriters Hall of Fame website. Our talent is cast and the band is pulling together the charts for rehearsal. This is gonna be such a treat to see our Rising Star talent from local music schools performing with our seasoned DSA members.

Our special showcase in April is the Deep Ellum Arts Festival Sons of Hermann Hall Ballroom stage, April 5 and 7. The Festival is free and fun!  Our other special showcase is coming in May at the Wildflower Festival City Line stage.

Our regular DSA monthly events:
* the Monthly Meeting, 1st Thursday, Guest Speaker, Songwriter Graham Bramblett from Nashville who is touring supporting his new album.
* Songwriter Meetup, 1st Monday, at Half Price Books on NWH in Dallas - Harry Hewlett hosts;
* the 3rd Thursday Open Mic at Dunn Brothers Coffee in Addison.
* the 2nd Wednesday Showcase at Opening Bell in South Side
* the 4th Thursday Showcase at Love and War in Texas in Plano
Our Lyric Contest will maintain it's quarterly deadlines: March, June, September, December.
Song Contest opens in June.

As you can see, you should block out almost every Thursday on your calendar for DSA events, a 1st Monday and a 2nd Wednesday.

We have a new book review by Allan Larson of the Terry Jennings book about his father Waylon Jennings. Read it here: https://dsabookstore.blogspot.com

We still count on you for support with your membership and donations. But most of all we want you to take advantage of the educational opportunities and participate.
There is still a chance to donate for the new year. Your generosity keeps our organization going. Just go to www.dallassongwriters.org and click on the donation link.

Thanks to Paul Zander, Jon Jaggers, Bobby Montgomery, Ginger Stanoia, Kenneth Shoemaker, and Kristi Myers for their recent contributions to our fall fundraiser. Other contributors include Ireland, Jon Jaggers, Bill Kapac, Rio King, Mimi Balkey, Suzi Morse, and Jared LoStrato. Go to this link: https://squareup.com/store/dallas-songwriters-association

Songwriting is hard. It's not easy for anyone, not even Paul McCartney. "I don't know how to do this," McCartney told NPR. "You would think I do, but it's not one of these things you ever know how to do." So it's okay if you make a couple songwriting errors, as long as you're able to recognize them and adjust. To help with that, here are seven common mistakes songwriters make that you should avoid. Continue Reading f5ec743b4e5e4c2c9587db8c6ec80b4d.gif
