DSA is proud to announce that this years Grand Prize Casio Privia Keyboard is the new PX-S1000. This new electronic keyboard sounds and feels like a real piano and it is lighter weight than other keyboards with the same features. This “world’s slimmest digital piano” weighs in at just 24.7 pounds. The back panel includes a USB port, an audio (stereo mini-jack) port,  and two 1/4 inch outputs, (stereo and mono). The Privia PX-S1000 contains 18 different "bread and butter" sounds, including numerous acoustic pianos, Rhodes and Wurlitzer-type electric pianos, vibes, string patches, organs, harpsichord, and acoustic bass. You can also layer and split these sounds.

Every working pianist in a metropolitan area where space and portability are paramount should try Casio's Privia PX-S1000 for themselves. From its realistic piano sound and touch, to its extreme portability and modern connectivity it’s truly a marvel.

FEATURES BILLY SPRAGUE

We have another terrific speaker for this month's member meeting! Billy Sprague is a prolific speaker, songwriter, author and artist who first toured with Amy Grant and Michael W Smith before pursuing his own recording and songwriting path. Other artists such as Debbie Boone, Kathy Troccoli, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Sandi Patty, Susan Ashton and many others have recorded his songs.  Via Dolorosa earned him a Song of the Year Dove Award. Man After Your Own Heart won inspirational song of the year.  He has also co-written two award-winning youth musicals and currently has two Broadway-style musicals in development.  The Last Days of Buster Drumwright, with partners in Nashville and a second musical,  Riding Time with no Hands, which chronicles the life, loves, scars and dreams of an aspiring songwriter.

As an author, Billy’s debut novel has just released. Music City Mayhymn is a detective story set in Nashville. His second novel is in the wings set for launch summer of 2023. He has authored two non-fiction books, Letter to a Grieving Heart and Is God Really There? (and is He good?). Letter to a Grieving Heart continues to be a perennial source of comfort with sales exceeding 50,000.  And, as a recording artist, Billy's solo projects passionately reflect his life journey, including Soundtrack of My Soul and his latest, Songs in the Key of Awe. Find these and other works at: billyspraguemusic.com

His topic will be "Discovery vs Invention in the Songwriting Process" so don't miss it!

Meeting - Thursday, June 1st
We have been getting some great speakers at out monthly meetings and this month is no exception!!  Bill O’Hanlon has been playing guitar, piano and writing songs for over 50 years. In recent years, he’s gotten more serious about songwriting and has co-written more than 300 songs a year for the past few years and over 1,400 songs total. Bill has gotten over 79+ cuts of his songs with independent artists and several sync placements.  In addition, Bill was chosen as Songwriter of the Year in 2022 by SongTown, an online songwriting community and he has also written 39 books, the last three of which are about songwriting.  A more complete bio is attached.

Bill's topic will be "Writing Hookier Melodies with the Line+3 Method" so it's one that sure to be very useful to us all!

Meeting - Thursday, July 6th - Dalis Allen

Dalis Allen is the Executive Director and Conference Coordinator for the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance.  For this meeting she will be taking about the upcoming SWRFA Conference that is being held in Austin September 27-October 1.  She is also producer of the Kerrville Folk Festival, so I'm sure she can answer questions about that event as well.
Also, be sure to get in your songs to be critiqued by industry pros Barbe McMillen and Joe Milton and considered for the 2023 Member Song Contest and Songwriter of the Year.
Please Note: You must go to the Dallas Songwriters website (see link below) to enter your song, or you can play them live.  When you go to the website look for "Forms" on the upper right-hand corner of the page then point to "Song Critiques" and the form will show up.  You can type in the lyrics or cut & paste.  For the song audio go to "Choose File" and load your audio file(s).  You can pay online via the critique form, and the cost is $10 per song.
You can pay online for critiques at: https://dallassongwriters.org/song-critique/
https://www.dallassongwriters.org
If you have a problem with this link, you can pay on square and show lyric and play audio on your computer. Here is square link.

Each song is entered into the Song of The Year and Songwriter of the Year Competition which is awarded at our Program in February.
