Seven years ago we began to honor famous singer/songwriters with roots in the Dallas/Fort Worth area through an induction into the Dallas Songwriters Association Hall of Fame. This year's honorees are: Willie Nelson, Mickey Raphael, Charlie Pride, Townes Van Zandt, Kelly Clarkson, Leann Rimes, Bill Mack, Charles McGary, and David Card.
Here is the Facebook live stream.
https://www.facebook.com/dallassongwriters/videos/727838474918184
In the previous years we have honored legends such as T-Bone Walker, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Freddie King, Trini Lopez, Sam Samudo (Sam the Sham), Cindy Walker, Gus Levine, Al Johnson, Bruce Channel, Jerry Lynn Williams, Gary Nicholson, Delbert McClinton, the Nightcaps, Larry Henley, Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs, Stephen Stills, Rod Phelps, England Dan Seals, John Ford Coley, Janie Fricke, Steve Weisberg, John Denver, and Gregg A Smith.
The DSA's initiative is to encourage young aspiring musicians to celebrate our legends with their performances of songs made famous by our inductees. We reached out to the local music schools and asked for auditions at each school for the honor to perform. The show is also archived on our Youtube channel.
For more information about our program and inductees, go to the Hall of Fame website: https://dallassongwritershalloffame.blogspot.comhttps://dallas-songwriters-association.square.site/product/donate-to-dallas-songwriters-hall-of-fame/27?cs=true&cst=custom
We still count on you for support with your membership and donations. But most of all we want you to take advantage of the educational opportunities and participate. Your generosity keeps our organization going. Just go to www.dallassongwriters.org and click on the donation link.
Stay at home and stay safe.
Songcerely,
Barbe

Bradley Banning- Thursday, May 5th
We are very pleased to have as our guest speaker this month Bradley Banning! Bradley is a singer/songwriter, producer and creative director with strong Texas roots. He currently lives in the Dallas area and has a 15 year history in the entertainment industry, 10 of which were spent in Nashville where he graduated from Belmont University with a BBA and a major in Music Business. He spent most of his time in Nashville in performing, artist development, tour management and business management for music artists. He will be talking about various ways he has helped singer/songwriters make money in the music business so you will want to hear what he has to say!
Jamey Shannon - Thursday, June 2nd
Jamey Shannon’s topic will be “Verse Development Building Blocks”
Born on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and raised in Tupelo and Starkville, Jamey has also lived in Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, and now Florida. He holds degrees from Mississippi State University, Southwestern Seminary and The University of Southern Mississippi. As a professor of music at Mississippi Delta Community College, Jamey teaches voice, guitar, bass, commercial music theory, and songwriting. Jamey is a singer, songwriter and teacher. His musical style is a kind of country/blues/old rock feel, if you can imagine that. He writes songs that are personal, some songs that are just goofy and fun, and some that are about character and just doing what's right.
Also, be sure to get in your songs to be critiqued by industry pros Barbe McMillen and Joe Milton and considered for the 2022 Member Song Contest and Songwriter of the Year. We will use Zoom to play your recorded songs via your own computer and post the lyrics at the same time, or you can play them live. Cost is $10 per song. You can pay online for critiques at:
https://dallassongwriters.org/song-critique/
Each song is entered into the Song of The Year and Songwriter of the Year Competition which is awarded at our December Awards Banquet.
