SONGWRITERS NOTES e-news #205 March 2019

Hello Songwriter,

Happy Mardi Gras. Hope you find the baby in the king cake.

We had a great month of February with the addition of our new showcases at Opening Bell and Love and War.

Again in February, we had a full house at the Dunn Brothers open mic in Addison. Come early to sign up and play a couple of songs. Again we discovered new talent at this venue. If you are a new member and want to play our showcase venues, this is the place to display your talent and get on the list.

Other showcases this spring are the Deep Ellum Arts Festival Sons of Hermann Hall Ballroom stage, April 5 and 7 and Wildflower Festival in May, plus our Hall of Fame.

Our Hall of Fame is April 20th, at the historic Sons of Hermann Hall DSA will be inducting Stephen Stills, Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs, Larry Henley and Rod Phelps. Check out the Dallas Songwriters Hall of Fame website. Our talent is cast and the band is pulling together the charts for rehearsal. This is gonna be such a treat to see our Rising Star talent from local music schools performing with our seasoned DSA members.

Our regular DSA monthly events:
* the Monthly Meeting, 1st Thursday, Guest Speaker, Bill Craig from NYC who is with the newest streaming platform, Peer Tracks, and song critiques
* Songwriter Meetup, 1st Monday, at Half Price Books on NWH in Dallas - Harry Hewlett hosts;
* the 3rd Thursday Open Mic at Dunn Brothers Coffee in Addison.
* the 2nd Wednesday Showcase at Opening Bell in South Side
* the 4th Thursday Showcase at Love and War in Texas in Plano
Our Lyric Contest will maintain it's quarterly deadlines: March, June, September, December.
Song Contest opens in June.

As you can see, you should block out almost every Thursday on your calendar for DSA events, a 1st Monday and a 2nd Wednesday.

We still count on you for support with your membership and donations. But most of all we want you to take advantage of the educational opportunities and participate.
There is still a chance to donate for the new year. Your generosity keeps our organization going. Just go to www.dallassongwriters.org and click on the donation link.

Thanks to Paul Zander, Jon Jaggers, Bobby Montgomery, Ginger Stanoia, Kenneth Shoemaker, and Kristi Myers for their recent contributions to our fall fundraiser. Other contributors include Ireland, Jon Jaggers, Bill Kapac, Rio King, Mimi Balkey, Suzi Morse, and Jared LoStrato. Go to this link: https://squareup.com/store/dallas-songwriters-association

Thanks to Harry Hewlett you can view some of our open mics and guest speakers in a live stream on Facebook? See guest our guest speakers, and past Angela's showcases. Can't make it? Then tune into Facebook/dallassongwriters. Want to be on our facebook streams? Show up and perform.

Songcerely,
Barbe
