How Ed Sheeran’s new Songwriter documentary goes inside the hit-making process
Songwriter, which is currently in theaters and is available on Apple Music manages to capture Sheeran’s songwriting process in real time. He gave unprecedented access to his cousin and longtime videographer, Murray Cummings, who decided to use his first film to zero in on the the elusive, rare moments of song creation that he felt had never been documented. —by Jonathan Bernstein / Rolling Stone
Richard Leigh's New American Songbook: Wandering One a Bluegrass Album
WANDERING ONE: TO BE RELEASED....It's been a long time coming for this album. 38 years to be exact. This is the second full length studio album Leigh has created in his career and the one he is most proud of. While it is a slight departure from his usual "country" style, Leigh sees it as full circle, coming back to his Virginia roots of folk music. To pre-order Wandering One, visit his website {richardleigh.com}.
Music Modernization Act Passed: Industry, politicians welcome "The most important piece of legislation in a generation"
In the end, getting together the Music Modernization Act might have been harder than writing a hit song. But after years of trying to get copyright legislation passed it finally happened, with now both the Senate and the House unanimously passing the legislation. – by Ed Christman / Billboard

How streaming is changing the shape of music itself (part 1)
A new rule book is needed, and for that we need to know which of today’s trends are the markers for the future. This sort of future gazing requires us to avoid the temptation of looking at the player with the ball, but instead look for who the ball is going to be passed to. These are changes that represent the start of the long-term fundamental shifts that will ultimately evolve into the future of the music business: (This is part 1 of a 2 part series) – by Mark Mulligan / Music Industry Blog

Music Law 101: Copyright infringement and fair use
The owner of the copyright in a work has certain exclusive rights in that work. Anyone who violates the exclusive rights of the copyright owner is an infringer of that copyright. To establish copyright infringement, you must establish that you own a valid copyright in the work and that: the work has been copied; and the copy is “substantially similar” to the protectable elements of the original work. —by Reverbnation Blog

How streaming is changing the shape of music itself (part 1)
A new rule book is needed, and for that we need to know which of today’s trends are the markers for the future. This sort of future gazing requires us to avoid the temptation of looking at the player with the ball, but instead look for who the ball is going to be passed to.
