Hello Songwriter,
I'm so excited that school is out and the reading is over . Maybe now I'll have a chance to breath. I'm looking forward to some lazy days of summer.
I just returned from beautiful Natchez, MS for a special graduation ceremony with my girlfriend, Wendy. I played the grand piano in the lobby of the Historic Natchez Eola Hotel and visited a number of plantation homes.
Next Tuesday, June 8 is our summer social with hotdogs, a special guest, and song critiques. Please note that we are meeting at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake Highlands, instead of at the CCC downtown where we normally meet.
Don't forget our song swaps on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and the Dunn Brothers open mic on the 3rd Thursday. See below for details.
We're wrapping up the month with a special performing songwriters event with guest speakers Gary Nicholson, Mark Galssmire, Lynn Adler, Tom Pasado Rao and Ryan Galloway. Plus a lot of great showcasing artists performing for local venues. There is still time to submit to showcase. It's only $5 to cover the cost of your lunch. The DFW area SWRFA one day event is scheduled for Saturday June 26th. Area venues connect with performing songwriters. Check out the details on our events page or at:http://www.unclecalvins.org/SWRFA
We had the best time at the Wildflower Festival. Can't wait until next year.

'How Sweet It Was': The Cultural Impact Of Gospel

Don Henley Wins Copyright Infringement Case Against Politician
By Tamera Bennett -- A Judge in California District Court ruled that politician Chuck Devore's new lyrics to "The Boys of Summer" and "All She Wants to Do is Dance" are not a fair use under the Copyright Act. The judge held the new lyrics did not rise to the level required for parody, which is a defense to copyright infringement.

Bus Boy to Songwriter
By Vernon Parker -- ASCAP Board Member Hal David was born on May 25, 1921, in the East New York section of Brooklyn. He grew up in an apartment above the family-owned kosher delicatessen shop and restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue. His parents, European immigrants, had originally settled on Manhattan's Lower East Side, where his father worked in a sweatshop before moving to Brooklyn. Why Bloggers Aren't Posting New Songs
By Shaheem Reid -- "Enough is enough," Andrew Barber ofFakeShoreDrive.com told MTV News on Wednesday. ... "I know it's a give-and-take relationship, but we already take enough from the artists.... Most ethical blogs won't post the album or keep posting [individual songs]. At a certain point, you're cutting into their sales. Its one thing to post a few songs, but to post every single song, that's basically pirating. That's where I draw the line."
