SONGWRITERS NOTES E-NEWS #197 APRIL 2018

Hello Songwriter, 

Blues band,Holland K Smith, will entertain us at our Songwriters Hall of Fame. They are an incredible blues band. We are honoring Delbert McClinton, Bruce Channel, Gary Nicholson, Jerry Lynn William, and the Nightcaps.  We will have a stage again at the Wildflower Festival in May and we will be at the Dallas Guitar Show also that month.

Coming in June is the Madison Music Conference, In Between The Waves, in June produced by Broadjam CEO Roy Elkins. http://btwmadison.com/  There will be a group of us going there. Are you interested?
We are planning a songwriting workshop at Booker T Washington Arts Magnet High School. We also still planning to bring music to some nursing homes whose do not normally have music do to facility budget restraints and to provide a song or two for bedridden patients who cannot attend the facility's normal activities.

  Our Awards Banquet was held on Friday December 8, 2017 at the historic Sons of Hermann Hall celebrating with top songs of the year performed by first rate talent. Some of our DSA Song Contest Semi finalists and Best Songs of the Meeting Finalists performed, including local artists Loralai Milton, Ireland, Megan Sullivan, Don Wall, Al Lumbreras, Allen Larson and Virginia native, Mike Ryan.

You won’t want to miss the guest speaker at our April 5th general membership meeting at Half Price Books!

One of our inductee’s at this years “Dallas Songwriters Hall of Fame” program is the Nightcaps. The last surviving member is Jack Allday the drummer for the Nightcaps. An R&B/Rock & Roll band from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and beyond. Songs you will remember: “Wine, Wine, Wine”, “Thunderbird” just to name a couple.

Jack will be in attendance and set  in with the band for a few songs at our annual April 12th “Dallas Songwriters Hall of Fame” program at Love & War.

Jack has also agreed to be the guest speaker at our April 5th general membership meeting.

I have read Jack’s memoirs of the adventures and misadventures of the Nightcaps. Just a hand full of high school kids with a garage band, their journey to stardom, and the passion for music that we all share.

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and hear Jacks story of the “Nightcaps”.

Nashville Cool!, April 13-15
A sponsor of The Workshop, is offering all Workshop members a free application (saves $25) to their upcoming songwriting retreat in April. Here's the info.

3 of Nashville’s best-known professional songwriters Pete Sallis, Bridgette Tatum and Joel Shewmake are offering to write with selected Unsigned Songwriters on April 13-15. 

The weekend includes 3 cowriting sessions with a Hit Songwriter, and concludes with a writers-round where all songs written during the event are performed for A&R consultant Steve Bloch. Plus...a representative from publisher Riser Music will be present to offer single song publishing agreements for those songs that fit their criteria. 

The event will be held at Montgomery Bell State Park 30 miles west of Nashville. Lodging is included in the registration fee.
