DSA MEETINGS - https://dallassongwriters.org/dsa-meeting/

Thursday, April 5th: Jack Allday, drummer from the legendary Nightcaps is guest speaker @ Half Price Books, 6:30

You won’t want to miss the guest speaker at our April 5th general membership meeting at Half Price Books!

One of our inductee’s at this years “Dallas Songwriters Hall of Fame” program is the Nightcaps. The last surviving member is Jack Allday the drummer for the Nightcaps. An R&B/Rock & Roll band from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and beyond. Songs you will remember: “Wine, Wine, Wine”, “Thunderbird” just to name a couple.

Jack will be in attendance and set  in with the band for a few songs at our annual April 12th “Dallas Songwriters Hall of Fame” program at Love & War.

Jack has also agreed to be the guest speaker at our April 5th general membership meeting.

I have read Jack’s memoirs of the adventures and misadventures of the Nightcaps. Just a hand full of high school kids with a garage band, their journey to stardom, and the passion for music that we all share.

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and hear Jacks story of the “Nightcaps”.

What "Entrepreneurship" Really Means For Musicians, Part 1: Rethinking Entrepreneurial Musicianship
By Nicholas Patrick Quigley
We are fortunate to live in a time where we have an incalculable amount of information at our fingertips. "How do I distribute my music?" "How do royalties work?" "Why won't Logic save my volume levels?" Just about any problem can be solved when a musician knows what questions to ask. However, when it comes to bigger questions about artistic and business growth and direction, it can become hard to find the next step Continue Reading

What "Entrepreneurship" Really Means For Musicians, Part 2: Music Is Never Made In A Bubble
By Nicholas Patrick Quigley
In this short article, I will begin to highlight ways in which musicians can stand out, and be effective in their missions to make music and do good. I will also highlight the need for critical reflection upon our music making in social context, so that we may continue to evolve and become more effective over time. Continue Reading

What "Entrepreneurship" Really Means For Musicians, Part 3: Looking Towards The Future
By Nicholas Patrick Quigley
In the first two parts of this series of brief articles on entrepreneurial musicianship, I provided a definition of entrepreneurship, and a model for critical reflection to practice entrepreneurial musicianship. In this final installment of the series, I am going to begin to discuss how we can apply this rethinking to our planning for the future, and why looking towards the future is one of our fundamental responsibilities as artists and arts leaders. The Music Album Is Dead, But Not Everyone's Accepted It Yet
By Bobby Owsinski (Forbes)
To many music artists and bands, making an album has always been the epitome of their art. This group of songs was a statement to their voice and current state of mind, not to mention a reflection of their social and physical environment. It was thought to be the highest form of recorded experience the artist could offer. It wasn't always that way though, and for the most part, it's not like that now. The trouble is, too many artists fail to recognize that the album is quickly becoming a relic of the past and even detrimental to their success. Continue Reading
