2. DSA MEETINGS -

2ND TUESDAY MONTHLY MEETING - http://www.meetingblog.dallassongwriters.org

DSA Meeting Tuesday, July 13 2010 6:30-9:30BEST SONGS OF THE MEETING WINNERS PANEL DISCUSSION

Songwriters who have won the monthly meeting song critique talk about how to write and record a winner. They will also be playing some of their winning songs. Panel facilitator, Stephen Blackwell, has been a song critique winner.

We will also announce the winning song and songwriter of the year 2009.

Our Song of the Year judge this year is Terri Jo Box
Box was blessed with 3 top 10 singles on the Christian Country Charts, nominated for 1999 Female Vocalist of the Year and her single "Faith" was voted one of the top 15 Songs of the Year in 2000. With a dream of still "making it" in the Country world, she loaded up the U-haul and left Nacogdoches, Texas for Music City. TJ has been focusing primarily on her writing in the last couple of years..."its such a rush to finish one...they're all my favorites" She still has a dual passion for writing the song and then singing it to see how the audience reacts. She also books and hosts two weekly singer/songwriter nights, McGuinness Girls Night on Monday nights, at Dan McGuinness right on music row and Tuesday nights at the "The Rusty Nail" in Hermitage. http://www.myspace.com/terrijobox

LITERARY DEVICES - Part 2 Similes
Let's look at some tools and formulas help you build similes.

Constructing a Song: Trent Reznor's Cacophony of Beats
By Bryan Gardiner -- Lots of musicians have studios; Trent Reznor has an alchemist's laboratory. On hiatus from touring, the Nine Inch Nails frontman has stuffed a converted garage with blinking electronic doodads, from modded synthesizers and sequencers to archaic drum machines. Reznor is using all this gear for his new band, How to Destroy Angels. Here's how one song off the group's forthcoming EP evolved from a seeming cacophony of beats and weird noise into a dense, polyrhythmic track.

DSA E-News #108 June 2010

Hello Songwriter,

I'm so excited that school is out and the reading is over . Maybe now I'll have a chance to breath. I'm looking forward to some lazy days of summer.

I just returned from beautiful Natchez, MS for a special graduation ceremony with my girlfriend, Wendy. I played the grand piano in the lobby of the Historic Natchez Eola Hotel and visited a number of plantation homes.

Next Tuesday, June 8 is our summer social with hotdogs, a special guest, and song critiques. Please note that we are meeting at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake Highlands, instead of at the CCC downtown where we normally meet.

Don't forget our song swaps on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and the Dunn Brothers open mic on the 3rd Thursday. See below for details.

We're wrapping up the month with a special performing songwriters event with guest speakers Gary Nicholson, Mark Galssmire, Lynn Adler, Tom Pasado Rao and Ryan Galloway. Plus a lot of great showcasing artists performing for local venues. There is still time to submit to showcase. It's only $5 to cover the cost of your lunch. The DFW area SWRFA one day event is scheduled for Saturday June 26th. Area venues connect with performing songwriters. Check out the details on our events page or at:http://www.unclecalvins.org/SWRFA

We had the best time at the Wildflower Festival. Can't wait until next year.
